This training course is the first phase of the long-term training programme for youth workers on the development of competences for using VR in youth work settings.
Who is invited to participate?
- 3 people per project partner
- Willing to engage in a long-term training programme on VR from April to October 2025
- Willing to apply their skills in direct work with young people from November 2025 to April 2026
Objectives
- Build a learning group and agreements to be ready for a long-term training process.
- Explore the context of using immersive technology in youth work and understand the principles of virtual reality (VR) technology and its applications in youth work.
- Learn to align VR-based activities with non-formal education objectives and youth work methodologies.
- Acquire technical skills to operate VR equipment, troubleshoot basic issues, and explore various multi-user VR platforms with the potential for youth work use.
Preparation tasks
To bring:
- 💻 Laptop
- 🥽 1 VR headset (check with your partner organisation), including controllers and charger
- 👓 Contact lenses (if you are using glasses). VR headsets can be used with mid-size glass frames, but we recommend trying the fit before the training.
- 💊 Medicine (if you’re using any). Sometimes, VR gives a headache for first-time users, so bring some painkillers.
- 🪥 Your hygiene items
- 🧥 Comfortable clothes for indoor activities and warm clothes for outdoor (expect temperatures between -4 and +4 Cº)
- 🩳🩱Swimming suit for Sauna
- 🍫 Some typical snacks/sweets from your country for the coffee breaks (not a lot, but just something to try out)
To prepare:
- Join WhatsApp group chat. We’ll use it for communication during the training. You can use it to coordinate some travel details with other peer learners.
- Set up your META account and META Horizon app on your phone.
- Try VR at least once before the training (check with your sending organisation): Try First Steps game, Oculus First Contact, Anne Frank House, Notre-Dame de Paris: Journey Back In Time
